MAPLE CITY – Dr. Stephen E. Fisher, 75, of Maple City, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at home.

Stephen was born August 19, 1948 in Buenos Aires, Argentina the son of Don and Dorothy (Dunlap) Fisher. On June 15, 1970 in Bloomington, Indiana, he married Linda (Bair) Fisher, who survives.

Stephen graduated from Indiana University in 1970 and with his medical degree from Indiana University Medical School in 1973. He completed his internship and general surgery residency at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1977. He then completed his residency in plastic surgery in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1979. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and for 35 years he ran his own private practice of Plastic, Reconstructive, Cosmetic and Hand Surgery in Muskegon, Michigan until he retired in 2013.

He was a renaissance man with many talents and likes. While in Muskegon, Stephen loved to hunt and fish on the “big lake” and was an avid morel mushroom hunter. Stephen and a group of friends were rock hunting enthusiasts. They jokingly called themselves the “old stoners.” Stephen and Linda would winter in Quartzsite, Arizona where they would attend rock trade shows. They were members of the Quartzsite Roadrunners Gem and Mineral Club.

Stephen had a green thumb and was an avid gardener, most recently adding blue berry bushes at his Leelanau County home. He enjoyed teaching and mentoring others, whether it be in the medical field or teaching someone to fish, hunt, or gardening. He was also giving and was “famous” for handing out $2 dollar bills to those who were special to him. He was a giving mentor who was strong in his Christian faith, and was an active member of both West Side Community Church of Traverse City and Arise Alliance Church of Quartzsite, Arizona.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Linda; three children, Jason (Katilyn) Fisher, Eric Fisher, Amy (Nathan) Thelen; one sibling, Donna (Tim) Stiver, one sister-in-law, Jeannette Bair; five grandchildren, Troy Thelen, Abby Thelen, Sophia Fisher, Addison Fisher, Andrew Fisher; and niece and nephew, Jacob (Carly) Stiver and Michaela Stiver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Dorothy Fisher.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to the Arise Alliance Church c/o Youth Fund PO Box 2819 Quartzsite, AZ 85346.

A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at Forest Park Covenant Church, 3815 Henry St, Norton Shores, MI 49441, on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024 at 1:00 pm, with a reception afterwards.
