Leelanau now part of the Wine Origins Alliance

The Leelanau Peninsula, Old Mission Peninsula, and Virginia regions joined the Wine Origins Alliance (WOA), an international organization that protects the names and trade of regional wines. The three regions were formally welcomed in Washington, D.C.

Open meetings investigation underway

By Zachary Marano zachary@leelanaunews.com On March 11, Gary Hosking, a Northport resident, filed a complaint with Leelanau County Prosecutor Joe Hubbell alleging that the county’s Energy Futures Task Force, an advisory body to the county, is not abiding by the Michigan Open Meetings Act (OMA). Hubbell forwarded this complaint to the sheriff’s office, who then sent it to the state police, which has jurisdiction over these cases.

The 36th annual EXPOSURES student art show graced the Old Art Building in Leland over the weekend featuring the best of the best art from high schoolers from around the county. Leland freshman Natalie Burpee earned the cover of the 2024 Exposures Magazine with her powerful “Parts of Me” mixed media drawing.
