NORTHPORT - Jean Marie Eggert, 89, of Northport, passed away on April 23, 2024, in Traverse City. Jean was born on March 1, 1935, in Northport, to Joseph and Vera (Inman) Cerny.

On July 23, 1953, in New Boston, she married Gerald Edwin Eggert who preceded her in death on October 24, 2012.

Jean dedicated her life to caring for others as an obstetrics nurse, bringing countless babies into the world during her tenure at Leelanau Memorial Hospital in Northport. Beyond her professional life, Jean was a dedicated farmer, spending her free time tending to the farm alongside her husband, always keeping a watchful eye over the next generation. She took pride in operating the tractor, mowing orchards, and managing the cooling pad during cherry season.

In their leisure time, Gerald and Jean cherished camping adventures and exploring all 50 states together. Jean was deeply devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her children, James Eggert, Timothy (Kathleen) Eggert, Pam Detweiler, and John (Sarah) Eggert; seven grandchildren, Krystal (Scott) Abbott, Tracey Eggert, Stacia (Thomas) Erlandson, Shane (Morgan) Detweiler, Q. Eggert, and Christine Eggert; four great-grandchildren, Kayden and Kenzie Erlandson, and Logan and Molly Detweiler; and her brother-in-law Robert Profitt.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 59 years, Gerald; siblings Virginia Profitt, Phyllis (Robert) Jarden, Donald (Dorothy) Cerny, Carol Cerny, and James Cerny; son-in-law Greg Detweiler; grandson Henry Forrest Eggert; and great-grandson Camden Erlandson.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 3rd at the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 4th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Northport. Reverend Dr. Chrysanne Timm will officiate.

Burial will follow the service at the Leelanau Township Cemetery.
