Darlene Louise Wood, age 89, passed away on Monday April 29, 2024 at Northport Highlands Assisted Living and Memory Care in Northport, Michigan.

Dar will be remembered in various ways by the many people who knew her throughout her life. She had strong opinions and didn’t mind sharing them. Dar had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.

Dar was born in Muskegon, Michigan on October 24, 1934 to Anthony and Sophie Felcoski. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1952 and enjoyed lifelong friendships with seven women from her graduating class, one of whom survives today, Janet Bergren. On August 22, 1953 she married Norman R Wood at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Muskegon, Michigan. Married 58 years, Norm passed away January 24, 2012.

Dar and Norm enjoyed many winters in Venice, Florida, where they made many friends. They loved entertaining family and friends in their Florida home.

Dar lived in the Muskegon area until 2019, when she moved to Northport, Michigan to be closer to two of her daughters. She was a caterer for 27 years. She owned her own business and also worked for other caterers.

Dar enjoyed reading and had a passion for going to estate sales with her sister and brother-in-law Mary Jean and Bob Heaton. Dar was predeceased by her husband, Norman Wood; brothers, Daniel Felcoski, Jack Felcoski, Robert Felcoski; aunt Florence Novak; brother-in-law, Thomas Sheridan; and more recently her son-inlaw, Danny Morehouse.

She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses: Kim and Bill Straley; Kelly Morehouse; and Kristie and John Sommavilla. She will be missed by her eight grandchildren: Brett (Amy) Straley; Jennifer (Christopher) Schecter; Heidi (Jeff) Gaston; Lindsey (Ryan) Stark; Jonny (Leah) Morehouse; Scott (Stacy) Sommavilla; Katie ( Jordan) Tromp; and Carly (Nate) Boschma. Also surviving are 19 great grandchildren.

Additionally she will be missed by her sisters, Mary Jean (Robert) Heaton and Betty Sheridan; her brother John Felcoski; and sisters-in-law Mary Felcoski, Mary Ann Felcosk and Sharon Felcoski.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held Monday, May 13th at 2:00 pm at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Norton Shores, Michigan. Father Steve Geerling will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, May 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Home, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, (231) 759-8565.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to Northport Highlands, 215 S. High St., Northport, Michigan 49670.
