SUTTONS BAY – Michael Allen Shackleton, 83, of Suttons Bay, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, just five days short of his 84th birthday. He was at home with his family by his side.

Mike was born April 23, 1940 in Ruby Township, Wisconsin, the eldest son of Floyd and Susan (Bozonie) Shackleton.

On August 21, 1975 in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota he married Mary (Atkinson) Shackleton who survives. He spent a career in research and development in filtration engineering. Mike’s work in pollution control filtration technologies benefited military personnel aswellasprivateenterprise. Hewas passionate about science and astronomy, endlessly curious and always expanding his knowledge. He was a voracious reader and was especially fond of science, hunting/ outdoor, firearm and history publications. Mike was a member of the Cedar Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and looked forward to fishing trips at his brother-in-law, Paul’s Canadian get-a-way, Fish Camp. One of Grandpa Mike’s fondest memories was teaching his granddaughters how to fish!

In addition to his engineering skills, he was an accomplished woodworker. Something he brought to his second career as co-owner, with Mary, of several unfinished furniture stores in Utah in the early 1990’s.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary; three children, Debra Shackleton, Nanette Bush, William Shackleton; two siblings, Dennis Shackleton, Mary (Keith) Eliason; six grandchildren, Randi Lee, Cass, Jo and Michael, and Elise and Kira. As well as his great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Michael P. Shackleton.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the wonderful staff of Hospice of Michigan for their care and compassion during a difficult time.

A private graveside service was held at Cleveland Township Cemetery.
