1932-2009
Private family services will be held for John “Jack” Frederick Hollinger Jr. of Elmwood Township who died Nov. 22 at Munson Medical Center. He was 77.
He was born Aug. 4, 1932 in Detroit, the son of John Sr. and Noreen (Cogley) Hollinger. In 1969, in Leland, he married Rebecca (Birch) Hollinger, who survives.
As a young man he served in the U.S. Navy. He also joined his father in the insulation contracting business in Midland. His family has longstanding ties to Leelanau County, with his father and grandfather both owning businesses in Suttons Bay. Along with his parents, he built the Falling Waters Lodge and Fisherman’s Cove in Leland, and owned and operated both from 1967 to 1982. He also owned and operated restaurants in Traverse City and Florida. He was an avid pilot and boater.
Also surviving are his mother and his four children, John F. (Kelly) Hollinger III, Molly (William) Kildee, Karen (Mark) Confer, Tracy Hammell and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debi in 2003, and a brother, Jerry.
The family is being served by the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
