1918-2009
A Memorial Mass was to be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City for Leelanau County native Louise M. Mikula of Traverse City who died Nov. 19. She was 91.
She was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Lake Leelanau, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Rose “Isabelle” (Couturier) Zeits. She married Joseph Worm who died while serving in World War II. On Sept. 11, 1948, she married Jerome “Jerry” Mikula, who survives.
She and her husband had a farm where they raised various animals including thousands of chickens. She formerly attended St. Francis Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, hunting, and fishing, and was an excellent cook and gardener.
Also surviving are her children, Arlene (Dave) Simler and Ronald (Katharine) Mikula, both of Traverse City; sisters, Mary Jean (Edward) Flees and Bernice (Carl) Schlueter, both of Traverse City; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, Dallas, William and Edward Zeits.
The family was being assisted by the Life Story Funeral Home of Traverse City. Cremation will take place. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
