Although the number of building permits issued by the Leelanau County Construction Code Authority so far this year is keeping pace with last year, the estimated construction value of permits overall has continued to lag – indicating that generally smaller building projects than last year are being undertaken this year.
Thirteen new building permits were added to a file available for public perusal at the Code Authority office over the latest two-week reporting period. That brought the year-to-date number of permits issued to 353, which is just three more permits than were in the file by this time in 2008 – an increase of less than one percent.
The 13 new permits had a combined, estimated construction value of $1,163,997, bringing the year-to-date total to $35,145,467. That’s about 6.7 percent lower than the figure reported by this time last year.
To put those numbers in perspective, the value totals by this time in 2008 were down 56 percent from 2006 levels, while the number of permits issued by the same time last year was down 33 percent from 2006.
